The children have been back to school for almost three weeks now and I am still amazed at how smooth the transition has been this year. I was expecting some difficulties with bedtime and homework or even some adjustment time for L. in Kindergarten.
Nope we just smoothly transitioned and I am now the mother of three school aged children. I have to admit that on the day Layla climbed on the bus I was teary. It felt like a page in my mothering life was turning. I am on the chapter where I get back some of my time and some tasks are easier. I am alone at the grocery store and I can schedule appointment at OB without 3 kids in tow. I like it and yet I miss the company. I know it sounds totally neurotic and only a mother can understand me.
I just have the feeling that I am getting the hang of it. I know what works for us and what doesn't. Busy schedules and too many after school activities are not for us. We enjoy a slower pace. I know this is just a phase and that I will be eating my words soon. The nature of being a mother is to constantly have to adjust and learn new skills. So before life throws me another loop I will enjoy this stage.
And mark my words, it will not last long...
